Can dry eyes go back to normal?

Many people get back to comfortable eyes, but chronic dry eye is usually managed rather than cured. The goal of treatment is an eye surface that stays comfortable on its own, without reaching for drops all day.

How far you get depends on the cause. When blocked or inflamed oil glands are driving it, treating the glands — warm compress therapy, lid hygiene, in-office gland expression, low-level light therapy or prescription drops — does more than artificial tears, which only add water to a tear film that evaporates too fast.

Most patients on a targeted plan notice improvement within 4 to 6 weeks; severe cases take longer. Because screens, allergies and dry air keep coming back, most plans also include habit and environment changes that protect the progress.
