A scleral fitting usually means 3 to 5 visits over 4 to 8 weeks: corneal mapping, trial lenses, then refinements until vision and comfort hold up across a full day. The lenses go in filled with preservative-free saline, which means bending forward to apply them from below, and they come out with a small suction tool. That feels awkward the first few times and becomes routine, and nobody is sent home until they can do it on their own.
Sleeping in sclerals is generally not recommended. Medical insurance often covers a significant portion of the cost for qualifying conditions.
